As much we love the big five beasts, we’re also huge believers in bigging up the underdogs of the animal world. And one of the best places to do that is Rainforest Expeditions’ Tambopata Research Center (rainforestexpeditions.com), a remote eco-lodge in the heart of Peru’s Madre de Dios region. Book a stay at this 24-room lodge, surrounded by 300 metres of raised walkways, and you’ll almost certainly enjoy regular sightings of creatures such as capuchin monkeys, caimans and capybaras. Although, this is also one of the best places to spot more elusive species such as jaguars, whitelipped peccaries and red howler monkeys.
