ENCAPSULATE 2010
It’s a new dawn to a new decade and gaming is feelin’ good

As we leave Y2K in the landfill alongside countless inflatable chairs and garish tracksuits, we embrace the ever growing digital culture of the 2010s.
We saw the livestream of Chilean miners trapped in a cave-in rescued with a Thunderbirds prop, we marvelled at the iPad launch that expanded the world of touch based digital devices (a la Star Trek) and many Sunday evenings would be spent in the next few years following the lives of the Crawley family on Downton Abbey.
Tabletop gaming was also going from strength to strength, with tons of new designers and new beloved titles. Join us as we look back on 2010 in gaming!
INSTAGRAM LAUNCHED
Of the many social media platforms released, none have been more responsible for emptying bank accounts and kickstarting gorgeous looking games quite like the infinite gallery of Instagram.
A portmanteau of “instant camera” and “telegram,” Instagram was originally created to cash-in on the “check-in” apps like Foursquare but found that people enjoyed the photo sharing feature so much, it was redesigned to focus solely on it. After officially launching 6th October 2010, it only took two months for the platform to hit a million accounts, with today an estimated 1.21 billion active users, meaning over a tenth of humanity now shares selfies at least once a month.
