Paul Farbrace, England’s acting coach for the upcoming T20 internationals
against India, insists Joe Root is “100 per cent” certain of keeping his place in the team for the three-match series that starts at Old Trafford on Tuesday. Root is undoubtedly England’s best batsman across all formats but looks the weakest of a powerpacked top six in T20 cricket and, when Ben Stokes returns to fitness, it is not unreasonable to suggest his place may come under threat. England confirmed last night that Stokes will make his return from the torn left hamstring injury he sustained during the recent Test series against Pakistan in Durham’s T20 Blast match against Yorkshire at Headingley on Thursday.
