Stardust memories

WORDS JANE CROWTHER

It’s apt, considering the movie they’re promoting, that when Total Film clicks into a Zoom chat with Stanley Tucci and Colin Firth, they are behaving like an old married couple. “Stanley’s just changing his glasses…” says Firth from his home, indicating to the empty chair where Tucci should be calling in from in Spain, where he’s filming. When Tucci returns, the duo talk over each other with the familiarity of spouses, discussing that they’d inadvertently worn exactly the same spectacles as each other for our chat and teasing each other about antiques with a twinkle in their eye.

“We mustn’t start giggling at our own work…” Firth chastises when they start to lose it while recalling a particularly funny scene they filmed together. “We should have done some revision,” Tucci bemoans when they can’t recall the exact lake they visited for a moving key scene in their latest collaboration, Supernova (it was Crummock Water).
