I own voice front and centre on arecord, and Good Grief is only his third solo album to date. That original experience had not been fulfilling – “I was left with the impression that making my own music was the last thing anyone needed,” he says –but his return to solo recording was fuelled by a need to “find the truth” and inspired by successful collaborations with everybody from Bert Jansch to Jessie Buckley.
