AS STORM Babet battered the UK, bringing strong winds and torrential rain, a TUI flight at Leeds Bradford Airport suffered a runway excursion after landing at 1353hrs. The aircraft, a 12-year-old Boeing 737-8K5 G-TAWD (c/n 37265), was operating flight TOM3551 from Corfu on October 20 when the incident happened. The airline confirmed that there had been no injuries reported among the passengers and crew, and all disembarked the aircraft safely.
In an official statement, the airline said: “We would like to apologise to all those impacted by the ongoing closure of Leeds Bradford Airport following an incident that took place shortly after landing on TOM3551. TUI Airways is assisting the AAIB with their investigation and working hard to support the reopening of Leeds Bradford Airport.”
