A further selection of children’s annuals from the Brenda Butler archive, characterised as usual by superb condition, provided some of the highlights of a May 2 sale at Comic Book Auctions (16% buyer’s premium).
Bid to £5600 was the copy of the first Magic-Beano Book shown right, issued in 1943 following the demise of the Magic Comic after just 80 issues and featuring the same key characters. Described as being in bright, fresh boards and looking unread, it was reckoned the highest grade copy ever offered at auction.
Other Butler successes included splendid examples of the Dandy Monster Comic annuals of 1941 and 1943 at £3250 and £4750 respectively.
