Steel fabrication for the 102-metre ferry that will serve Arran from summer 2018 has reached the halfway point at Ferguson Marine Engineering Limited, Port Glasgow.
The £97 million contract for two ferries will see one ferry for the island and another to serve the Hebrides. The fi rst steel was cut for the vessels in February this year.
Kenneth Gibson MSP said: ‘Not only is real progress being made in building Arran’s much-needed and anticipated new ferry, construction has ensured the retention of the skills and expertise of the workforce and the continuation of shipbuilding on the Clyde.
