As a climax to their first racing season, members of the Arran Coastal Rowing Club (ACRC) took their skiff Iolair twice across to the mainland to compete against other clubs.
Skiffs are boats for four rowers plus cox – and skiff racing has really taken off in the past decade throughout Scotland and worldwide.
On Saturday September 3 the hosts were the Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Club in Largs. The clubs taking part – Arran, Carrick (Maidens), Cumbrae, Irvine, Largs, Newburgh on the Tay (Fife), North Berwick and Troon – all braved the challenging conditions for the two-kilometre races. A stiff southerly breeze, coupled with an incoming tide, whipped up the Clyde producing white tops and a rolling swell.
