PROFESSOR Steve Peters, the leading sport psychologist who has won numerous world masters sprints titles, has launched a mind MOT service designed to keep athletes emotionally and mentally on an even keel.
Peters has an impressive client list, having worked with England’s soccer team, the British Cycling team including Olympic gold medallists Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton and other stars like Raheem Stirling and Steven Gerrard. He is also the author of the best-selling manual
The Chimp Paradox,
selling 200,000 copies.
A two-hour ‘Psyche Check’ consultation with his company, Chimp Management, costs £200 and is carried out by Peters’ team of high-flying psychologists and can be conducted either at clinics based in Sheffield and London, or via Skype. In trials, the approach has proven hugely popular with those suffering anxiety, pre-event nerves or low mood when injured. Clients receive a detailed personal report and action plan and can book follow-up sessions if required. In many cases, says Peters, an annual psychological check up is enough.
“It’s a structured way of reflecting across all areas of your life,” says Peters (pictured above). “And it can cover any area of a professional or personal life.”
