Forget your skis or snowboard, there’s so much to do in the Alpine resort of La Plagne without the wintery weather — as Steve Brown discovers
TAKE TO THE HILLS: Steve gets to drive a Jag

When you think of the Alps, your mind goes immediately to snow-capped mountains and skiers traversing – or bombing — down the slopes. Altogether, a wintery experience.

Well, my mind is completely blown when I visit La Plagne – a few hours from Geneva – in the warmer months. As a frequent skier, I’ve often dreamt of going to a mountain region when the land is not white with snow, and this small, tranquil resort does not disappoint.

With just as many activities to keep me busy during the hot, glorious weather, I am spoilt for choice. Do I go hiking? Do I go mountain biking? Kayaking? White-water rafting? The possibilities are almost endless! In the end, I decide to jump into a raft with some locals and make my way down the Isère river.

The sights and sounds are mesmerising, and I die when I realise that I don’t have my phone to take photos. But then the rapids appear — and I’m quite pleased. Hold on tight!
