THE GREEN MILE
New UK tour operator Sustainable Journeys is set to provide travellers with itineraries that are better for the planet. The trans-owned business’s climate-friendly trips will reduce travellers’ emissions, offer eco-focused accommodation and support local communities. Slow travel is at the heart of the business, but that doesn’t have to mean flight-free — it will encourage customers to stay in a destination longer or to fly one-way where possible. It will be working with Path Net Zero to measure the carbon footprint of each trip, as well as with NGO Planeterra to add a ‘ripple score’ that highlights the percentage of money spent that will stay in the destination. The launch destinations are Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland and west Sweden, with many more destinations being added this year.
