THIS WEEK’S ROAD test (p46) features Britain’s best-selling vehicle, and one that proudly bears the Blue Oval badge. For many years, you would probably have assumed that to be the Ford Fiesta, but in 2024 that honour belongs to the Ford Transit van.
The huge success of the profitable Transit is in some ways as much to blame for the demise of the Fiesta as tightening rules and the inexorable shift to SUVs. When Ford was hamstrung by a lack of semiconductors a few years back, it focused on Transit production over car production, because that’s where the biggest margins were. As noted last week, Ford is following sound business logic, not emotion.
