What exactly is it that draws us to a house? The answer is probably the combination of a number of factors – the building’s character, design, materials used, surrounding landscaping and general upkeep. Also, the wider context of the local community and facilities will add to its overall allure.

First impressions can be enough to convince or deter us from buying a house within the first few minutes of viewing. So enhancing kerb appeal will certainly help if you want a quick sale, even if it doesn’t add to its market value. If you are planning to update a property to put on the market then you may well take a different approach to if you’re renovating somewhere you plan to live in. But if the latter applies, then kerb appeal is still important when it comes to creating a result that will lift your spirits every time you come home and work to showcase a bit of your character to visitors.
