MAE MULLER
SORRY I’M LATE
EMI
★★★★
Mae Muller’s chances of doing a Sam Ryder and parlay Eurovision fame into an enduring career took a hit when I Wrote A Song nearly received the wooden spoon. Yet, packed with potential hits, her debut album is actually far stronger than her Eurovision predecessor’s. Muller’s surprisingly eclectic debut excels at 80s-tinged new wave (Nervous), orchestral noir-pop (Written By A Woman) and summery Calvin Harris-esque funk (Me, Myself & I). Should the public forget her 25th placing, Muller may just become the next big pop girl.
