• Figure out your why. “You have to think about what you’re trying to achieve and why you’re doing it,” Colleen says. “Are you trying to draw attention to the ceiling, or trying to make it go away?” Some of the factors to consider are the height of the ceiling, the color you want to paint the walls and the amount of natural light that comes into the room.
• Use paint to de-emphasize the ceiling. If you have low ceilings or want a room to feel a little smaller and cozier, Colleen’s suggestion is to color drench or paint the ceiling the same color as the walls. “That way, it all feels like one and it blurs and goes away,” she says.
