Last year, AMD’s Threadripper CPUs took most of us by surprise and it has since been revealed that these high-end desktop CPUs weren’t actually a part of AMD’s original plan. In fact, there wasn’t even a financial proposal for them until quite late in the day. It was a project created by CPU architects and enthusiasts at AMD, but it worked, successfully knocking Intel’s 10-core Core i7-6950X CPU off the top spot.
