THE GIRL WHO DIED

ALISTAIR McGOWN

THE TARDIS LANDS ON EARTH IN THE NINTH century, where the Doctor and Clara Oswald are promptly captured by Vikings. After a two-day journey by longship, they arrive at a coastal village settlement. The surrounding mountains suggest they have been brought to the Vikings’ native Scandinavia.

The Doctor attempts to escape by telling the villagers that he is the god Odin having taken human form, but he is trumped by a giant, ghostly vision of Odin that appears in the sky. Odin is in fact the leader of a deadly warrior race called the Mire, and he is on a mission to seize the village’s finest fighting men. Aboard the Mire spaceship the Viking warriors are absorbed, their testosterone and adrenalin extracted for the Mire to consume in liquid form.
