A new bomb mapping tool that plots every one of more than 32,000 German air raids on the UK during World War II is now online.
The interactive ‘Bombing Britain: an air raid map’ is based on wartime intelligence files from The National Archives and is freely available to use at www.warstateandsociety.com/Bombing-Britain
The map was launched to mark the 80th anniversary of the first German air raid over British soil. Pins identify the locations of attacks that took place between September 1939 and March 1945, during which 60,000 civilians died. Users click on a pin to open the window displaying information such as dates, times and casualty numbers.
