Al forgetting the 848 is not a race bike for a moment...

The introduction of the 848 into Ducati’s model range marked a significant change of direction for the famous Italian firm. Prior to the 848, Ducati’s smaller capacity v-twin superbikes were aimed squarely at taking on the Japanese inline fours in supersport’s racing classes. However, with its vastly increased 849cc capacity, the 848 was never going to be able to do this and instead it was cleverly targeted at riders who loved the idea of owning a Ducati sportsbike, but were put off by the cost to buy and insure a large capacity one. Considering the subsequent death of the supersport class all across Europe, it was a pretty smart move from the guys in Bologna.
