The Dock is not a fixed collection of common apps selected by Apple. You can customise it in many ways to make it easier and faster to run the apps you need and to open documents you are working on.
We are not talking about simply adding icons to the Dock – you can create custom menus that make accessing documents and favourite apps easier. It is also possible to add Smart Folders to the Dock, which automatically update to show you the files you want to see. Once you get the hang of creating menus, you will find many uses for them and they are great for boosting productivity on the Mac.
