IT’S A SHORT Talking Tech this time because it’s about Android phones, and I will admit I know very little about the Talkback feature or how to use it. But there has been some major news for visually impaired Android users, so I need to report it.
In the western world, iPhones are the smartphones of choice for a majority of visually impaired people (VIPs) because Apple got a head start on screen reader technology. Android’s Talkback has caught up, but iPhones are still viewed by many in the USA and Europe as the VIP choice. This situation is reversed in poorer countries where affordability means that Android phones are in the majority.
