A journey into drawing
Part 2 Trudy Friend offers more tips and techniques for making the most of your drawing media
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
■ How to add interest and depth to your drawings
■ How to replicate natural textures through mark making
In last month’s article a wandering line was used to create forms, however, to draw pebbles, I showed how a simple outline may be absorbed by tone as the first stage of a smooth tonal build-up, where carefully applied layers increase tonal values. If you create a gradated tonal ‘ribbon’ (below) irst then include a similar variety of tonal values in your drawing, you will be able to achieve a threedimensional interpretation. Remember, it is just as important to retain areas of untouched paper for the lightest lights and strong highlights.
