There’s been a bit of chatter recently about Linux use (I shudder to say marketshare) increasing and it seems many casually presume it’s down to Steam Deck uptake. Don’t get me wrong, more people absolutely are using Linux because of the Steam Deck. Gaming has become increasingly straightforward on Linux and in some ways simpler than on Windows now. But the estimated nine million Steam Decks pale when you think of the 61 million Raspberry Pis that have been sold over the years.
More importantly, a large chunk of the reason that the Raspberry Pi exists in the first place is to help education. Now, take a moment to recall that Apple, Windows and Google have all bent over backwards over the years to try to capture the education market, largely for straight profits but also because if you can influence young susceptible minds, they’ll be using your products for life!
