Electronic’s self-titled debut album is one of the first big reissues of 2020, with Rhino announcing limited-edition white vinyl and standard black vinyl versions due out on 24 January. Both pressings will have the black cover used on the CD version for the first time on vinyl. “We were two musicians who wanted to get away from the suffocating politics of the band,” says Marr of the project he lauched with New Order’s Bernard Sumner the same year The Smiths split, with the album arriving in May 1991. “At the same time, it was OK for duos and DJs and non-groups to make records, and that really appealed to Bernard and me.”
In other Johnny Marr news, a new boxset titled Single Life collects together all of the guitar hero’s first 10 solo singles on coloured 7-inch vinyl, along with unheard demos and art prints. It’s out now.
