HOW IT WORKS
Bluetooth
It’s old, and a bit slow, but Bluetooth remains a key technology for mobile devices
Key fact
You can use Wi-Fi or Ethernet to set up a LAN (Local Area Network) that connects lots of different devices across a large area, such as a home or office. Bluetooth has much lower range than Wi-Fi, so it’s used to create a personal area network (PAN) that primarily connects devices used by a single person, such as headphones or a mouse connected to a laptop.
Like most technologies, Bluetooth continues to develop all the time
YOU WILL LEARN How Bluetooth works, and its strengths and weaknesses
Some technologies are so widespread, and used by so many devices, that we almost take them for granted. Bluetooth is one of those technologies, used every day by billions of people to control devices such as keyboards and mice, headphones, speakers, and other smart devices. It’s estimated that more than five billion Bluetooth devices will be sold this year alone, rising to seven billion in 2026, with more than 1.5 billion of these being audio devices.
