Locomotive: LNER Raven Class B16 (NER Class S3) 4-6-0
Gauge: ‘OO’
Proposed
by: Jeremy Tomlinson
What is it?
When introduced in 1919, Vincent Raven’s Class S3 was originally described as a ‘Fast Goods’ locomotive by the North Eastern Railway. Inspired by a Wilson Worsdell concept, the ‘S3’ was re-classified as ‘B16’ by the LNER and became one of its most successful and popular mixed traffic locomotives. Indeed, the class continued into British Railways days, working until final withdrawal in 1964.
