Hollow Hand
Your Own Adventure

Brighton-based talent comes on like The Traveling Wilburys’ sixth sibling.
Tapping a Zeitgeisty folk-horror vibe in the video for recent Byrdsian single Heaven Just Watched, and variously evoking everyone from Stealers Wheel to Jeff Lynne to Tom Petty, Hollow Hand, AKA singer/multi-instrumentalist Max Kinghorn-Mills, is a shape-shifting beast. Album number three preserves some of the charming DIY aesthetic of earlier, more psychedelicsounding HH releases, but with a twist: Kinghorn-Mills also travelled to Nashville to oversee guest spots from pedal-steel ace Spencer Cullum and former Midlake linchpin Tim Smith, among others, and this lends parts of Your Own Adventure – a rallying call for self-reliance and autonomy, says its maker – depth and transatlantic sheen. Try One Last Summer’s über-relaxed powerpop or I’m Going To Let You Break My Heart’s fatalistic country; both tunes exemplify Kristin Cofer HH’s magic touch.
