Caracas, Venezuela— Hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans fill the streets of Caracas on September 1 to demand the removal of President Nicolás Maduro, whose time in office has seen the collapse of the economy, triple-digit inflation, shortages of food and medicines, and widespread frustration over perceived corruption. Opposition groups estimated that at least 1 million people took part in the protest. Venezuela refused entry to at least six foreign journalists the day before the protest, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
