STAFF in Raigmore Hospital’s Renal Unit have received a Highland Quality Approach (HQA) staff award for demonstrating a high level of care, kindness and compassion to patients on a daily basis.
The Inverness unit’s nurses were praised for striving to improve patient care and engage in quality improvement projects. At the award ceremony, the audience heard how the unit is one of the best in Scotland for access and survival rates, and one reason for this is the first-class nursing care.
During the event, the details of one particularly busy afternoon were related as an example, when a patient became acutely unwell and staff immediately sprang into action to care for the patient, all the while keeping the patient’s family informed and ensuring no other patients were aware of the events unfolding in order to avoid distressing them. The way the team handled the incident contributed to it being nominated for this award.
