LOVE YOUR POOL
I learnt to swim in one, learnt to teach in one and learnt to lifeguard in one, for me, as with many swimmers – my story with swimming started in the pool.
Now, one of the things I like about open water swimming is the fact its outdoors, no chlorine, no smelling of bleach, no lanes or lane rage just lots of big open spaces to swim in. However, the pool is a great place for training, especially during the winter period when outdoor swims are shorter and fewer. I tend to work on technique and speed in the pool and frequently do interval training there too. Everyone assumes that swimming pools are fully accessible for those with disabilities, they are easier to access and safer as you’re in a controlled environment with lifeguards. However, even they are not without their problems and believe it or not, sometimes they are even less accessible than open water swimming venues!
