T
he Oppo Pad 3 Pro joins the growing ranks of premium Android tablets, with its obvious competitor being the £449 OnePlus Pad 2 (see issue 364, p86). The two are essentially identical other than their colour – here, your eyes are treated to Starlit Blue rather than the Pad 2’s grey.
At £499 with 256GB of storage, it’s also a rival to the 256GB iPad, which costs £479 – although, unlike Apple, Oppo doesn’t offer any other storage or cellular options. You’ll soon be able to partner the tablet with the Oppo Pencil 2 Pro stylus and a full Qwerty keyboard with kickstand, but neither is currently available to order.
The slim, unibody design is well constructed and looks smart, with curved sides that sit naturally in the hand. The rough edges around the speaker cutouts detract from the luxury feel, and it’s heavier than the iPad at 586g versus 477g, but it’s light enough to carry around comfortably. An 8MP camera sits along the upper edge of the tablet when held in landscape mode. This makes sense for Zoom and Teams calls, and the same camera also handles face unlock, with great responsiveness even in low light. The 13MP camera at the rear is fine for the odd snap, but don’t buy this tablet expecting to take stunning images.
