EMERALD MONITORS
The emerald monitor (Varanus prasinus) is a vibrantly-coloured green varanid which originates from the island of New Guinea and some of the smaller surrounding islands. The species is known to inhabit both areas of mangrove swamp and tropical rainforest. The emerald monitor, however, is one of these most-prized species, thanks to its size and attractive colouration. James Brereton MSc of Sparsholt documents the college’s experiences in keeping and breeding this beautiful varanid.
