London psych-proggers Goldray were formed when Reef guitarist Kenwyn House hooked up with vocalist Leah Rasmussen and played an informal drunken jam at a Christmas party. Their partnership was formidable and they’ve been writing ever since.
Leah Rasmussen and Kenwyn House: change is all white with them.
“It was hilarious but the funny thing was, we jammed it and when we finished everyone clapped and asked when we’d written all the songs but we’d literally just made them up there and then,” says Rasmussen with a laugh.
“We do tend to overwrite as well and this may be why we end up being quite proggy, because in one song we can go through so many different sections and arrangements.”
Kenwyn House
“We bullshit our way through stuff and we’ve been doing it like that ever since,” adds a chuckling House. “It took a while for us to find our voice. I was doing Reef again and life gets in the way but we kept writing and eventually we realised we loved it so much and it was what we both really wanted to do. I wasn’t really feeling creatively inspired with Reef anymore so I made the decision to be stupid or brave and leave something that was probably a good payer for something that was a risk but artistically speaking, I am very glad I made that decision”.
