THE East Lancashire Railway’s October 14-16 autumn steam gala is to feature five out of six surviving Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway locos – believed to be the largest gathering of L&Y locos in one place in preservation. It is the latest in a series of events this year marking the centenary of the merger of the L&Y with the LNWR.
Subject to availability, the operational line-up is set to include: L&Y Class 25 0-6-0 No. 957 visiting from Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (KWVR); L&Y ‘Pug’ No. 19; L&Y 0-6-0ST No. 752/51456; and L&Y Class 27 0-6-0 No. 52322. Also due to be in traffic are LNWR 0-6-2 Coal Tank No. 1054, GWR ‘56XX’ 0-6-2T No. 5643 and BR ‘4MT’ 2-6-4T No. 80097.
