Plastic sleepers laid in tunnel
MORE than 3,690 new plastic sleepers, manufactured from recycled plastic, have been laid during a series of possessions in the 1000 yard Moncrieffe tunnel, south of Perth during February.
It is the first time that composite sleepers have been used at such volume anywhere on Scotland’s railway. The sleepers have a 50-year life span and can be repurposed or recycled to make new sleepers or other composite products.
