Overhaul of 1874-built Bellerophon progresses

The boiler, tubes, cladding, tyres and a full repaint are all being looked at.

THE overhaulofVintage CarriageTrust’s Haydock 0-6-0WT Bellerophon, builtin 1874, is now seeing significant progress following a hiatus after the covid pandemic and other factors intervened.

Boiler work involves new girder stay bolts and ferrules, smokebox steam pipes and overhauled fittings. New tubes and cladding are also required, with a new smokebox already purchased and awaiting fitting.

The chassis is said to be in reasonable condition having had extensive work, including the replacement of an axle plus rebored cylinders during its previous operational period. It only needs fitted bolts for the hornguides and the usual pins and bushes required at most 10-year overhauls.
