On December 1, Class 802 ‘Nova 1’ No. 802203 operated the first TransPennine Express service to run from Manchester Victoria to Stalybridge using electric power. The train was the 09.45 Newcastle-bound departure, pictured here prior to leaving Manchester. The overhead line equipment was installed over the course of a major blockade and multiple weekend works during 2023 and 2024, as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade. As the line is being electrified eastwards to where it meets the East Coast Main Line at Colton Junction, services between the North East and North West will ultimately be able to complete their entire journey in electric mode.
