Forget the so-so sequels, this Spanish zombie thriller is a short, sharp, stripped-back classic from a time when found footage didn’t feel played out. We follow TV reporter Ángela (Manuela Velasco) and her cameraman as they cover the night shift at a fire station. What starts as a routine call-out quickly takes a turn for the apocalyptic as they get sealed into an apartment complex full of people infected with a rabieslike virus. [REC] is formulaic stuff, but everything here is enacted with ruthless efficiency and maximum tension.
