There are early access games, and then there’s Hades II. Its predecessor already set a new bar for how polished a game supposedly not finished could be, but now Supergiant Games has gone one further: you can ‘finish’ this one right now.
Well, that depends on how you define finishing a roguelike, which is all about runs that you can keep playing again and again; but what’s most compelling about Hades is how with each attempt it drip-feeds its story, like a kind of soap opera about Greek deities. With such a large cast it can also afford to tell a new story for the sequel, centring on Melinoe (or Mel for short), who’s on a mission to reach the underworld’s depths to kill the god of time, Chronos.
