The Hornsea Gazette, April 4, 2024.

We lead with the news that plans for a controversial asphalt plant near Brandesburton have been given the go-ahead at the third time of asking - to the dismay of local campaigners.

Two wartime Spitfires will be performing a spectacular duel over Withernsea at this summer's Blue Light Weekend - but organisers are warning that the display could be the last of its kind without more local sponsorship.

There's news of a fundraising race night for Hornsea Carnival, and the Buffaloes visit Hornsea Inshore Rescue to present them with a large donation.

Plus: pictures from the East Riding Riders' annual Easter egg run, a picture special on the fundraising Welwick 2 Wheelers ride which once again saw some fantastic fancy dress efforts, and two successful pub fundraisers - one by the Pub Lads in aid of Withstock, and another that raised over £4,000 for the cancer treatment appeal for two-year-old Louie Turner.

We report on a blessing by the Pope for a couple who have just celebrated their 70th - Platinum - wedding anniversary, and there's news of a third cardiac screening session for young people in Withernsea. Josh Richardson tells how he is embarking on an epic motorbike journey around the coast of Britain to raise awareness of men's mental health, while Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is asking people to share their memories as it celebrates 50 years.

Plus, Farming Review, Your Entertainments and Homes & Gardens

Sport looks back on the big Hull derby on Good Friday, plus reports from Hornsea Harriers, Easington United, Withernsea AFC Under-11s' trip to the Netherlands, and more.
