JACKSON BROWNE
“FOR EVERYMAN” ASYLUM, 1973
The first song I remember being really emo and walking around my middle school listening to was “For Everyman”. I also had this acoustic live album of his that I really loved. It’s crazy imagining myself relating to that at age 12! None of my friends were into this stuff, they were listening to things like Corinne Bailey Rae, but I felt pretty confident about my music taste. I liked folk music already, but I wanted it to be really sad, and Jackson Browne definitely leans very hard into that. We’ve become friends, and he’s the most normal, well-adjusted dude ever - it’s crazy imagining what I thought he would be like as a tween.
