Studies have shown that too much glucose, and especially fructose, over time starves the brain of energy, leading to memory loss and brain shrinkage. These two sugars interfere with the energy factories in cells, called mitochondria, and deprive the brain of the energy to function properly.
It’s believed that 40-year-old adults with so-called normal glucose levels, but at the higher end of the normal range, may increase their risk of Alzheimer’s by 15%.
