I am not a writer who can work in cafés. I need to be at my own table, at my desktop computer, with the music at just the right low level, and no interruptions. However, I am about to embark on a three-month work trip with my husband – a contract awarded to our family business, which will involve visiting four different countries and staying in a string of hotels or rented apartments. In the normal way, I would be thrilled and would simply make notes and put any ‘proper’ writing on hold till we got back. But this has coincided with my also getting a contract for my first non-fiction book with a small publisher and I must continue to write for the whole time I am away.Delaying delivery of the manuscript is not an option as the subject is topical, and nor is staying at home. Not unless I want a divorce! I really am worried as being published is all I’ve wanted for a long time and I cannot mess it up. Do you have any ideas or advice?
