We imprinted our style on a modern property

Even new houses can be improved upon, as Michelle and John have shown

John created wine storage above the fridge freezer by pushing together three small wooden wine racks from Achica.

In the 16 years since they met in Leicester, John Greatorex and Michelle Clarke have moved into, then renovated, five period properties. ‘And some of them turned out to be in a much worse state than they looked,’ remembers Michelle. So when they moved again for Michelle to be nearer her new job in Hereford they both agreed that this time they would like a modern house in a town, not an old one in a village. They spotted the three-bedroom house in Winchcombe on the internet and liked the big rooms and sunny rear garden so much they bought it.

The couple kept the existing engineered oak floorboards and Fired earth tiles behind the deep purple Aga but repainted the walls in Dulux Gardenia. They also kept the howdens units and added a matching island made for them by Redbrook Kitchens in Winchcombe. They also kept the existing blind but bought purple utensils for a colour co-ordinated scheme
