The 1971-72 NBA season was a big one for the Los Angeles Lakers, who captured their first
NBA title since leaving Minneapolis for L.A.
It had been a long time coming, but the title is a huge part of Lakers history. Leading the way on that team were guards Jerry West and Gail Goodrich, and center Wilt Chamberlain. A piece of that championship sold for $48,871 as a Premier Lot in a recent Grey Flannel Auctions event.
West led the league in assists that season, averaging nearly 10 per game. The Lakers also reeled off a 33-game winning streak during the march to the title.
