TESTING PROCESS
Starting with a full charge, we tested each of our inflators on the spare wheel of a 2004 Mini One, taking it from completely flat to the recommended cold-weather pressure of 2.1bar. We noted the noise level for each inflator from one metre away. Once 2.1bar was shown on its display, we measured the actual pressure in the tyre with a digital pressure gauge to check accuracy.
We repeated the test for each inflator in turn until their batteries expired, allowing them to cool between tests. We noted the pressure reached before each unit died.
We evaluated how easy each unit is to attach, to switch between preset values and units of pressure, and to activate in the first place.
We also noted other features each inflator offers – USB power outputs, comprehensive sets of fittings and storage pouches, for example – and awarded points accordingly.
And, as always, the scores were weighted by price to find our winner.
