OUR FAVOURITE VERSION eDrive40 M Sport
IF YOU’RE WORRIED that an electric car might feel alien and difficult to adapt to, the BMW i4 could be for you. It’s based on the petrol BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé (a close relative of the 3 Series executive car), and the two are verysimilar inside and out.
As one of the best cars in its class, the 4 Series gets the i4 off to a good start, bringing sharp driving dynamics, a highquality interior and brilliant infotainment. Factor in its other virtues (more of which anon), and the i4 is a strong rival to the Polestar 2 and Tesla Model 3.
There are three power options. The 282bhp eDrive35 and 335bhp eDrive40 have a single motor and rear-wheel drive; the rangetopping 537bhp M50 has two motors and four-wheel drive.
Sport trim covers all the basics, bringing sports seats, climate control, a rear-view camera and a large, curved infotainment display, while M Sport adds more eye-catching styling inside and out. The M50 adds adaptive suspension, a head-up display and lots of driver assistance tech. If you want a heated steering wheel or adjustable lumbar support, it’s worth keeping an eye out for a car with the optional Comfort Pack.
