Additive in processed food can lead to IBD and leaky gut

One additive used in processed foods is responsible for chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and ulcers. It also raises blood sugar levels, which can be a precursor of type 2 diabetes.

The additive, E 407 or carrageenan, can pass through the gut wall and makes the small intestine more permeable. This is probably because it triggers an inflammatory response.
