Arthur Mailey Lord’s, London May 1926 Photographer unknown The diminutive Australian leg-spinner was unplayable on his day, and against England during the 1920/21 series he took 36 wickets as Australia whitewashed the tourists 5-0. On duller pitches in England he was less effective, taking just 14 wickets in the 1926 series as Australia finally surrendered the urn, when four successive draws gave way to a huge England victory at The Oval. Mailey retired from Test cricket after the match, later becoming a celebrated cricket writer and cartoonist.
